If I Had My Way

artwork for my single If I Had My Way, shows me in front of a velvet background wearing a novelty crown

This was written way back in 1999 and was about a girl I met, too briefly to justify a song, in Australia. Sometimes you just have to write a pop song, that's what this is.

As I've mentioned here I learned to play the trumpet whilst working nightshifts and because I thought it having only three buttons would mean it was easy. I am bad at playing the trumpet in general, but good at knowing my limitations and understanding how to use what I can do well. The little trumpet stabs in this are easy to play, but they sound great and it was lots of fun producing this one.

Heaven help us all if I ever did get my way.

You can listen to If I Had My Way and read the lyrics below

  1. If I Had My Way Bransby 3:03

If I Had My Way

If I had my way everything would be lovely from the start
There'd be songs to sing I would always win, we would never be apart
Flowers would blossom everywhere you tread, there would be sweetness in the air
I could tell the world about a certain girl and everyone would care
You see if I had my way everyone would be perfectly content
You wouldn't have to think, there'd be enough to drink
No more worries about your rent boy

And this song, would go platinum worldwide
If I had my way
And you would be right here by my side
If I had my way
I'd take the bright side never sing too long
Optimism's fine until things go wrong
You were smiling then, but I didn't see
But then if I had my way, you'd be here with me

If I had my way I wouldn't fall asleep with a vision of your face
If I had my way most of the world would be a better place
There was something else but I couldn't say it, you wouldn't read between the lines
I took a chance on courage but I still don't know if you noticed my best line

And this song, would go platinum worldwide
If I had my way
And you would be right here by my side
If I had my way
I'd take the bright side never sing too long
Optimism's fine until things go wrong
You were smiling then, but I didn't see
But then if I had my way, you'd be here with me

You'd smile as I hit that chord
Instead of sitting there looking slightly bored
I'm still smiling now, but you'll never see
That if I had my way, you'd be here with me
